2. The Veldt fell just short of being an anathema in the Chapel Hill indie rock scene of the early '90s. Sounding and looking nothing like the striped shirt contingent of Superchunk, Polvo, or Archers of Loaf, the band was more at home with the likes of England's dream pop bands. They were predominantly black, an unfortunate mark against them.

5. The Veldt released their first proper record, Marigold's, on Stardog/Mercury, in Marigold's was received well enough to earn the band a much more lucrative contract with Polygram Records. The result was the cult classic Afrodisiac recorded and produced in London, England with Ray Shulman (The Sugarcubes,The Sundays, etc.) at the helm.

6. The Veldt was a great college band of the 90's. They were regulars on the Frat. circuit in the Triangle region of North Carolina (Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill). I remember seeing them many times while at NC State. Together with the Connells and Dillon Fence, the 4/5(1).

The Veldt played many shows across the US in the late s opening for the likes of The Cocteau Twins, The Pixies, Lush, and The Jesus and Mary Chain. In their heyday, the band never surpassed the level of cult status.
